Connie Cushing
Chairman of the Board/Treasurer
Not many businesses these days can say that they have been around for over half
a century or that they are still family owned; as a third generation Cushing
and CEO of Cushing-Malloy, Inc. I can proudly say both of these things. For as
long as I can remember, I have always helped out with the family business.
During my childhood my sister and I spent many hours after school and in the
summer time typing shipping labels and doing the filing. In 1988 I earned a BBA
from the University of Michigan, and later became CEO of the company. This
company has always been my home and my employee's are my family. I am proud of
what we have all accomplished together and look forward to what we will do in
the future. I enjoy boating with my husband Mike and son Dylan in my spare
time.
Company History
The Ann Arbor printing industry has evolved into many out of one.
Cushing-Malloy, Inc. was one of the first of these printers on the scene. The
founder of Cushing-Malloy, Bertrand Elmer Cushing was working as vice president
for Edwards Brothers, the first printing company in Ann Arbor. When the
printing business became overwhelmed with work, Bertrand and his co-worker
Jimmy Malloy left Edwards Brothers and opened the doors to their own printing
company in 1948. In 1969, after successfully functioning from two separate
locations in the down town Ann Arbor area, the Cushing's consolidated all
production and office work to one location at 1350 N. Main St. where we remain
today. In 1952 Bertrand bought out the Malloy family and continued to run the
business himself. Sadly, twenty years later he died suddenly and the company
was taken over by his son Tom. By Tom's side, were his daughters Margo and
Connie. Margo and Connie often came in as little girls to help with hand work
and watch their father run the business. After the girls were grown, they
continued to work with the family business. Margo took over the human resources
department and Connie worked on the production side. In 1998 Margo left the
company to be more involved with her husband's business and to raise her
children. Connie continued to work with her family's business and in 1999 became
CEO. Cushing-Malloy, Inc. remains the same small family owned and operated
business as it began back in 1948, but has modernized and taken on a new name
to project our stand alone commitment to our customers. We continue to be and
will remain a company that is dedicated to providing superior customer service.
